YARN HEAVEN NEWSLETTER |
Note from Tarie As we all know, outside it is HOT, HOT, HOT!!! Well, as all knitters and crocheters know, the two best times to work on our projects or start new ones are – when it’s too cold or too hot to be outside! As HOT as it is outside, the new yarns inside are even HOTTER! Come on in and see all of the new yarns. We have all colors of Plymouth Kudo (cotton/rayon/silk) now in stock with new adorable patterns. Two of the most popular patterns are perfect for beginners. Kudo_pattern1601 From JoJoland, we have replenished our stock of Melody (laceweight, superwash wool) and now have 14 colors in stock as well as perfect for all of the new patterns. We are now carrying the Rhythm (superwash wool, medium worsted). This lovely self-striping yarn knits beautifully on US 7 needles. Watch for our upcoming class using Rhythm for the Polo Collar Cardigan called Denim Infinity. The deep, rich colors are gorgeous and both of these yarns are so soft you’ll want to cuddle them. And, best of all, they are priced to fit our economy-conscious budgets. JoJoland’s silk/cashmere blend, Consonance, happens to be my favorite. I am just finishing the Vine and Lace shawl. With 440 yards to a skein, two skeins does the shawl. We have most of the colors in stock. Clover Bamboo Circular Needles are now available in sizes 0, 1 and 2. The new class schedule will be posted next week. Be sure to check out our next Class List. The friendships that are formed during these groups last well beyond the actual class time, and you will learn skills that carry over to your other projects. The Button Holes and Finishing class is scheduled for July 25th. What a great class! Our Two at a Time Socks class has been rescheduled for August 1st and 15th from 10:30-2:00pm (two sessions yields 1 awesome pair of socks to boast about). Come on in and try this easy and fun way to get your socks done! The Entrelac Shawl class is coming up soon. Entrelac_shawl.jpg Update on Helmet Liners – This has been one of the most rewarding projects that we have been involved in. Children from two elementary schools have donated money and/or individual cards for our service people. Women that were knitting in World War II have donated hours of knitting and crocheting time. Churches, knitting circles and other groups from all over the country have gotten involved. We have received Helmet Liners from as far away as Arizona, Ohio, and Pennsylvania to name just a few. It has been a most humbling experience. Our goal now is not only to deliver the liners, but to communicate the overwhelming response from everyone to their needs. To those of you that have mailed in your liners, a big THANK YOU! for the extra effort. 3/50 Project – For those who miss the Grass Roots movements of the 70’s, now is your chance to make a difference in today’s ugly economy. Support your favorite brick and mortar store through the 3/50 project. Pick the three stores in your area that you would be heartbroken to lose and make it a point to spend $50 a month (if possible) at each place. Sometimes, this may not be possible (ex: you need to buy a hammer and you only have a vet on your list.) But, when possible, spend your money at your favorite stores instead of bigbox stores, who send their money to another part of the country, or online, who may be sending your money to China. Keep your favorite stores in business. Support the 3/50 project in your community. One more note: Please visit our Yarn Heaven Forum at Ravelry.com, the online knitting and crocheting community. Currently you must sign up for admission to Ravelry, but don’t let that stop you. It’s free and the more the merrier. Summer cleaning – The cleaning bug has struck Yarn Heaven. Take advantage of this very rare occurrence and peruse the baskets. Odd lots of all types of yarn will be sold for shockingly low prices. First grab first serve. When you make purchases of ten dollars or more, a free pattern of our choosing will be secretly hiding in your bag. Collect as many as possible! |
